Description

IMPORTANT: This service is reserved for clients who are actively engaged in therapy with Dr. May of Vital Roots Psychology, or who are willing to begin working with her as part of their treatment. Somatic Experiencing® + Massage is a body-based complement to psychotherapy. While sessions are provided by a Registered Massage Therapist and are eligible for massage therapy insurance reimbursement, they differ significantly from traditional massage treatment.
The primary focus of this work is not muscle tension, pain relief, relaxation, or deep tissue treatment. Instead, sessions are designed to support awareness of sensation, nervous system regulation, and the integration of therapeutic work taking place in psychotherapy.
Together, we explore the body's responses through mindful attention, gentle dialogue, and therapeutic touch. Sessions may include Somatic Experiencing® touch work, grounding practices, nervous system tracking, clothed touch, massage, compression, or trigger point techniques when clinically appropriate. Some sessions involve very little massage, and massage is always provided over-top of clothing. The approach is guided by your therapeutic goals and your body's natural pace.
While massage techniques may be incorporated, clients should not expect a traditional full-body massage during their session. The emphasis is on awareness of sensation, nervous system regulation, and supporting the therapeutic process rather than providing a conventional massage treatment. Sessions are designed to complement your ongoing therapy with Dr. May. With your written consent, Breanne and Dr. May may consult regarding your care to help ensure a coordinated and supportive treatment approach. Billing Somatic Experiencing® + Massage sessions are provided by a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT). A receipt including Breanne's RMT registration number will be provided following your appointment and may be submitted to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
